DOUBLE PORTION also offers equally impressive safety equipment and standards. It is a United States Coast Guard registered vessel equipped with USCG approved Type 1 flotation devices, including lights, whistles, required reflective material, and are certified with the required buoyancy for offshore use. It has dual AIS (Automatic Identification System) radios, which is a sophisticated digital GPS and VHF radio based transponder system that can prevent collisions by making the vessel visible to other vessels at night, in the fog, and in the rain, which degrades radar visibility. Both radios are registered with an MMSI (Maritime Mobile Service Identity) number. This MMSI is a unique nine digit number that is assigned solely to DOUBLE PORTION and is recorded into the United States Coast Guard’s national distress database for use in emergency situations. Lastly, it has an Emergency Position Indication Radio Beacon (EPIRB), that is registered with NOAA SARSAT, which is a device that communicates with search and rescue satellites, and automatically alerts the Coast Guard and search and rescue services in case of an emergency.
